Apple has launched a public beta version of Apple Maps for browsers. This version is currently available only in English and can be accessed through Safari, Chrome, and Edge browsers. Support for other languages and browsers will be released later, according to the company.
Apple Maps was originally launched in September 2012 along with iOS 6, replacing Google Maps as the default mapping service on Apple systems. However, the service was initially exclusive to Apple devices.
Mac and iPad users can open Apple Maps in Safari and Chrome browsers. On Windows PCs, the service can be accessed via Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers. The link for access is beta.maps.apple.com.
The browser version of Apple Maps includes many features found in the iOS app. Users can find driving and walking routes, view locations and related information such as hours of operation and reviews. It is also possible to discover restaurants and shops and explore cities around the world.
The “Look Around” feature will be launched in the coming months. This feature will allow users to have a detailed view of specific locations, similar to Google Maps “Street View”, Apple Maps main competitor.
Apple has stated that more updates and improvements will be implemented throughout the beta period.
