A recent study conducted by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) revealed that approximately 40% of Apple device users in the United States prefer Apple Music as their audio streaming service of choice. Data collected over the 12 months leading up to March 2024 indicate a preference for Apple’s in-house service over competitors like Spotify.
The CIRP report indicates that the adoption rate of Apple Music among iPhone, iPad, and Mac users has shown consistent growth, rising from 34% in 2020 to the current 40%. Apple Music, introduced in 2015 as the successor to iTunes Music, has seen a gradual increase in its user base.
In comparison, Spotify, another giant in the music streaming market, recorded an adoption rate of 29% in 2024, up from 24% in 2020. Despite its growth, Spotify still trails behind Apple Music in terms of preference among Apple device users.
Other audio streaming services, such as Amazon Music and Pandora, were also monitored in the study. Amazon Music showed an adoption rate of 10% in 2024, down from 16% in 2020. Similarly, Pandora saw its adoption rate decrease from 12% in 2020 to 8% in 2024, suggesting a market consolidation trend around a few main services.
