Global version of KartRider: Drift to be shut down

On July 31, 2024, NEXON Company announced the closure of the global version of KartRider: Drift. The game, launched in January 2023 for consoles, PC, and mobile devices, will have its servers shut down later this year. This decision affects both the mobile and console/PC versions. Currently, the game is still available for download on the Google Play Store and the App Store.

Problems and Criticisms

KartRider: Drift was developed to compete with popular titles like Disney Speedstorm and Mario Kart. However, since its launch, the game has faced criticism from users, mainly regarding the level of automation in the races. Many players stated that this feature made the game monotonous.

In addition to gameplay criticisms, technical problems were also reported. Poor optimization on certain Android devices and frequent bugs affected the player experience. These unaddressed issues contributed to a gradual decrease in the player base, making it increasingly difficult to find matches with real players.

Game Closure

NEXON has stated that while the global version will be shut down, the Asian version of the game, available in Taiwan and South Korea, will continue to operate. However, this version will be reworked. As of now, the company has not detailed the process for closing the global version, including information on possible refunds for players who made in-game purchases.

Although NEXON has not completely ruled out the possibility of a global relaunch of the reworked Asian version, there is no concrete information on this matter yet.
