On Friday (8), Google announced that it will be discontinuing its podcast app, Google Podcasts, in the United States starting April 2024. Users of the app will need to migrate or export their podcast data before July 2024 when the service will be completely deactivated. Google has not specified when the app will be discontinued in other regions worldwide.
The reason for discontinuing Google Podcasts is the integration of podcasts into YouTube Music, Google’s music and video streaming service. YouTube Music has recently added some podcast features, such as the ability to add podcasts via RSS feed URLs, automatically download podcast episodes, and discover new podcasts.
Google had previously signaled its plan to discontinue Google Podcasts in September of this year when it removed the app from the Play Store and replaced it with YouTube Music. At that time, Google stated that YouTube Music offered a more comprehensive and personalized experience for podcast users, allowing them to access both music and videos in the same app.
