The mobile game Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, based on the popular Harry Potter book and film series, will have its servers shut down at the end of October. The shutdown will affect players in various regions, including Europe, the Americas, and Oceania. However, the game will continue to be available in some Asian countries for a limited time.

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened was released in 2023 after several years in development, having been announced for the first time in 2019. The game is a combination of RPG and card game set in the Harry Potter universe. In it, players create characters who become students at Hogwarts, where they can interact with familiar elements and characters from the saga.

Why was Harry Potter: Magic Awakened canceled?

The developer WB Games decided to shut down the game just over a year after its launch. The company did not disclose the exact reasons for discontinuing the project. However, it is believed that the game’s financial performance fell short of expectations. In its first month after launch, the game generated approximately $4 million, a modest amount for a title from such a major franchise. In the following months, profits continued to decline, which may have influenced the decision to end the game.

When will the game be shut down?

As of August 26, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened has been removed from major app stores such as Google Play and the App Store. This means that new players will no longer be able to download the game. However, those who already have the game installed on their devices can continue playing until October 29, when the servers will be permanently shut down.

There is currently no information on potential refunds for players who purchased digital currency or items in the game’s internal store. WB Games has not announced a compensation plan for these users, leaving the possibility of future updates on the matter open.
