Huawei, one of the world’s leading smartphone manufacturers, has reached a new milestone in the operating system market in China. HarmonyOS, developed by the company since 2012, has surpassed Apple’s iOS in terms of consumer usage among Chinese users. Currently, China is one of the largest smartphone markets in the world.
HarmonyOS now represents 17% of the smartphone operating system market in China, overtaking iOS, which holds 16%. Google’s Android maintains a dominant lead with a 68% market share.
It is important to note that the sum of the market share percentages exceeds 100%, likely due to rounding in the collected data.
In August 2023, Huawei launched HarmonyOS 4, an update that promised and delivered an enhanced user experience for the brand’s devices. By May 2024, the number of devices adopting the Harmony ecosystem surpassed 800 million, with 180 device models receiving the option to upgrade to version 4.2 of the operating system.
With the release of the new Pura 70 series and other products in the second quarter of 2024, Huawei aims to not only maintain but expand its market share in the operating system sector.
While HarmonyOS has achieved remarkable success in China, its usage outside the country remains modest. However, Huawei’s operating system has shown steady international growth year after year.
