According to a report from the Financial Times, Microsoft Games CEO Phil Spencer revealed that they are working on a new game store for iPhones and Android smartphones, which could be launched as early as next year if it obtains regulatory approval after the acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
With the entry into force of the EU Digital Market Law in March 2024, companies like Apple and Google will be required to allow ownership and operation of app stores by third parties.
During the Game Developers Conference (GDC) held in San Francisco, Phil Spencer stated that he hopes to provide Xbox and third-party content on an open platform for all gamers. Currently, this is not possible on phones. The acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft is still ongoing.
Although it is only speculation, it is already expected that XCloud will be involved, providing a store that not only allows players to download their games on their mobile devices but also to play them via streaming.
