YouTube Music, Google’s music and podcast app, has announced the introduction of a new feature that allows users to find songs by singing or humming. Previously available through Google’s virtual assistant, the feature is now accessible directly in the app via an exclusive button.
To use the new functionality, users need to tap the wave button in the top right corner of YouTube Music. This will open an interface titled “Play, Sing, or Hum a Song.” From this interface, users can search for songs by humming, with the results page displaying details such as album cover, song title, artist, album, year, and download status, along with options to play or save the song to the library.
The YouTube Music feature is similar to Shazam, a music identification app currently owned by Apple. Shazam is known for its ability to recognize songs played in the environment, and now YouTube Music offers a parallel functionality for Android and iOS users.
The implementation of the new feature is ongoing for both Android and iOS devices. Users who do not yet have access to the functionality can check for updates to the app on Google Play or the App Store or wait until the feature becomes available in their region.
