The game Oaken, known for its roguelike card mechanics, has expanded its presence in the gaming market with the release of its mobile version. Available on the App Store since April 25th and on Google Play since March 21st, the game follows a premium model, being offered for approximately $5.99 on both platforms.
The original release of Oaken for PC occurred on July 20, 2023, where the game was well-received on the Steam platform, accumulating very positive user reviews. Although it did not achieve a status of great popularity or “hype”, the game stands out for its progression and gameplay, which, while sharing similarities with the title Slay the Spire, offer a distinct experience to players.
In the game, participants engage in strategic turn-based battles on a isometric grid segmented into cells. Players use these cells to summon unit cards, each with specific strength and hit points (HP) attributes, to combat opponents. In case of defeat, players have two options: to continue the journey, with the possibility of choosing this alternative once per chapter, or to end the game.
Strategy is a central element in Oaken, especially regarding the orientation of units on the battlefield. Attacking an enemy from behind, for example, often prevents the opponent from counterattacking. However, players must be prepared for possible retaliation in other situations. Additionally, the game allows players to upgrade their cards, improving them once and adding spirits, which grant special characteristics to the cards.
